概要 Owing to their high chemical and thermal stability, fluoropolymers are used in a variety of industrial equipments. Among them, poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF, −(CF2CH2)n−) shows high resistance to temperature, chemicals, ignition, and mechanical stresses so that it has been used for various applications including coatings, chemical and electrical, and especially energy-related materials. Wider use of these polymers will require the establishment of waste treatment. We report herein an effective method for almost complete mineralization of PVDF and related copolymers in subcritical water at relatively low temperature (~300 ºC) by use of H2O2. Furthermore, the formation of CaF2 upon addition of a stoichiometric amount of Ca(OH)2 to the reaction system is highlighted.
