| 概要 | In 1968, the Regional English Centre (RELC) was established in Singapore by a coalition of five Southeast Asian nations. This was a result of the decision-making process for establishing various institutions, which led to the selection of English as the language of regional cooperation in the area. This study describes and analyzes that decision-making process, focusing on the social context of the East-West Cold War, regionalism, imperialism, and the linguistic and socio-cultural situation. |
