概要 | This book examines three communities of women and adolescent girls who in the 1970s and 1980s challenged restrictive gender and sexual norms in Japan: the women involved in the (1) women's liberation movement and the (2) lesbian community, as well as (3) young women artists and girl readers of what I call queer shojo manga (girls' comics). The women and girls in these communities found the normative understanding of "woman" untenable and they worked to subvert it in part through transfiguring ideas, images, and practices selectively appropriated from the "West." |
