概要 | There is a linguistic paradigm in the African American language literature that maintains that the language of descendants of enslaved Africans in the United States (widely known as Black English) is not a dialect of English but a new African language which is derived from West African languages basically at the grammatical level. I discussed how the birth of the African-centered paradigm may have been influenced by its contemporary movement to establish a Department of Black Studies, a certain network of scholars who adopts an Afrocentric perspective, and the then African-centered literature. |
