概要 | Vinylbenzyl S-thioacetate (I) was prepd. Soln. polymn. in chlorobenzene afforded a corresponding sol. polymer. Bulk copolymn. of I with styrene afforded a sol. copolymer when the feed ratio of I was lower than 30 mol %. Soap-free emulsion copolymn. of I, styrene, divinylbenzene, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (66:28:1:5) was carried out to afford uniform spherical microgel, whose av. diam. was 135 nm. Aminolysis of the microgel with an excess amt. of butylamine in the presence of sodium tetrahydridoborate followed by treatment with hydrochloric acid resulted in complete removal of the acetyl group to give a slightly distorted spherical microgel (MG-SH) bearing mercapto groups. The av. diam. of MG-SH was 165 nm. Transesterification of p-nitrophenyl acetate in the presence of triethylamine was efficiently accelerated by the addn. of MG-SH. The radical polymn. of Me methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of MG-SH afforded the MMA-grafted microgel. |
