概要 | This article updates the sociocognitive approach to second language acquisition, and applies this theoretical framework to English lingua franca interaction between a Japanese university student and a Finnish friend. The video-taped interaction is analyzed through five 'units of participation': activity types, routines, co-constructed tellings, repetition, and assessments. The analysis demonstrates how these units of participation provide powerful support structures thqt promote rich learning opportunities for second language acquisition and teaching. |
