概要 | Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene), i.e., poly(VDF-co-HFP), which production reaches the most largest volume among fluororubbers, is melt-processable and shows high resistance to temperature, chemicals, ignition, and mechanical stresses. Owing to these specific characters, such fluororubbers have been used for various applications. For the waste treatment, they can be incinerated. However, incineration requires high temperatures to break the strong C–F bonds, and the released hydrogen fluoride gas can seriously damage the firebrick of an incinerator.Herein we examine the reactions of poly(VDF-co-HFP) and another fluororubber, poly(VDF-co-PMVE) (PMVE = perfluoromethylvinyl ether) in subcritical water in the presence of KMnO . Efficient mineralization of these fluororubbers at a relatively low temperature (250 C) is presented as well as the reaction mechanisms and the fate of KMnO4. |
