| 概要 | A pair of doublets of European style has been found in 2009 at Matsura Historical Museum in Hirado, first port of Japan opens to the trade with Europeans from the end of the 16th century. They are believed to have been handed down in the Matsura family, the lord of the Hirado Domain. However, it has not been left any historical records relating to the person who carried it.
In this paper, the design composition, motifs and its weaving technique will be discussed in order to identify the origin and the period of its making. In addition, by comparing with other silk fabrics imported to Japan during the 17th century, especially those identified as made in Iran, we will examine how the silk fabric used for this doublet could be placed in the history of textile from the Safavid Period Iran. |
