概要 | Owing to their high stability, fluoropolymers (FPs) are used in many industrial equipment. While usages of the FPs have widely spread, waste treatment techniques do not catch up with their increasing demand. Incineration is an option to treat these wastes. However, HF gas generated during the treatment seriously damages refractory bricks of incinerators. If the FPs could be decomposed to fluoride ions by means of environmentally benign techniques, the well-established protocol for treatment of fluoride ions could be used, whereby calcium hydroxide is added to the system to form calcium fluoride, which is a raw material for hydrofluoric acid.
We report herein an effective method for complete decomposition of PVDF and related copolymers to fluoride ions, by means of superheated water in the presence of an alkaline reagent. |
