概要 Diamond is the superior material for cutting tool due to its the highest hardness and the highest thermal transmitter and so on. On the other hand, processing of diamond is very difficult due to the performance as shown before. Furthermore, the hardness of diamond crystal varies depending on a crystal orientation and carbonize at high temperature. Therefore, this paper investigated grooving performance of monocrystalline diamond, type Ib, using the nanosecond pulsed UV laser. As a result, 12 μm depth grooving can be obtained under 16 mm/s scanning speed. By changing focus point, sub mm depth can be machined using 30 kHz UV laser.
